VAT exempt SMS short code

Charity Short Codes are a new range of approved short codes designed to identify VAT (apportioned within a donation) and associate it to a charitable cause.

A dedicated UK short code range of 70000 to 70999 has been set aside by the mobile network operators for SMS donations. Charities can now rent a code from this range to distinguish a premium micro-payment (the gift) as a charity SMS donation.

Using a charitable short code identifies and passes on the VAT content of a mobile donation.

A SMS donation will lead to a charge on a donor’s mobile phone bill, or will debit from available funds on a pay-as-you-go mobile phone. In accordance with your terms and conditions of your mobile donation campaign we can facilitate a single or recurring SMS donation.

VAT exempt?
The UK network operators can treat VAT in different ways and certain conditions do need to be met to ensure your SMS donations are treated as VAT exempt. Contact us for details.

*Get more from each donation with our mobile Gift Aid application …

With every SMS donation a billed text message is returned to a donor’s mobile phone (the agreed donation amount). Within this billed text message we include a ‘thank you’ message - we also insert a mobile hyper-link to our Mobile Gift Aid application; which when clicked takes the donor to a fast mobile form whereby a declaration is made (the donor will pay more in tax during the tax period than their donation. On submission; this information is forwarded to your charity to ensure Gift Aid can be claimed against the donation.
